Transforming an AI-Built Website
Frankum Construction Case Study
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionised many industries, including web design. While AI can generate functional and aesthetically pleasing websites, it lacks the human touch necessary to create user-centric experiences. This was evident in my recent project with Frankum Construction, a family-run building company based in West London. Their website, initially built using AI, needed refinement to enhance user experience and showcase their high-quality projects effectively. Here’s how I transformed their digital presence.
The Challenge:
Frankum Construction’s original website had an AI-generated framework. However, it lacked key design elements that could enhance user experience and align with their business goals. The two main objectives for the new website were:
Showcase their high-quality construction work
Encourage users to contact them via phone or email
With these goals in mind, I collaborated with them to refine their website design while retaining the initial foundation.
The New Website:
Homepage: A Strong First Impression
The homepage now opens with a striking full-bleed carousel of high-quality images showcasing Frankum Construction’s best projects. A subtle text overlay highlights their years in profession which immediately captures user attention.
Just below the fold, an experience section was added to emphasise the company’s decades of expertise. This builds trust with potential clients by demonstrating their established history in the industry.
To provide visual proof of their craftsmanship, we integrated a collection of high-specification projects on the homepage. This section allows visitors to quickly grasp the quality of their work, reinforcing the company’s credibility.
The services section was designed with a minimalist approach, featuring only iconography and service titles. This keeps the page clean and digestible, enticing users to contact the company for further details.
Finally, the contact details were prominently placed in a heritage blue banner with a subtle textured background. This section is consistently present on all pages, ensuring users can reach out at any time without hassle.
Projects Page:
The projects page features a clean, grid-style layout, allowing users to browse completed projects effortlessly. Each image is labelled with the project name, making it easy for visitors to scan through Frankum Construction’s portfolio.
Clicking on a project leads to a dedicated project page, which starts with a full-bleed image of the property, giving users an immediate sense of scale and detail. As they scroll, they encounter a brief description explaining the scope of work and key highlights of the project.
To showcase intricate details, a gallery of high-resolution images is presented, offering a deeper look into each project. Additionally, an interactive image functionality allows users to click on images for a full-screen view and seamlessly toggle through them. This caters to different browsing preferences, whether users prefer scrolling or a more immersive image-viewing experience.
Pairing AI with Human Expertise for Better Results
AI is a powerful tool for website creation, but it cannot replace designers. While AI can generate a strong framework, a designer’s expertise is essential to refine the user journey, enhance branding and ensure a seamless experience.
